Richard K. Taylor

Drawing upon fifty years of involvement in faith-based, nonviolent demonstrations, campaigns and movements, Richard Taylor has published four books, five training manuals and over ninety articles on faith and active nonviolence. "Love in Action," his fifth book on the subject, is the first to apply what he has learned from this rich experience to the reform and renewal of the Catholic Church.

Coming from a Quaker background, Dick joined the Church in 1982 at forty-nine years of age. He has been a very active Catholic, serving for the past fifteen years as Coordinator of Ministry Development in his local Philadelphia church, St. Vincent de Paul. At the diocesan level, he was named by former Cardinal John Krol to the Cardinal's Commission on World Peace and Justice and by former Cardinal Anthony Bevilacqua to the Synod Commission on Moral and Social Issues. He wrote about his love for the Church and his belief in its fundamental goodness, truth and beauty in the article, "Why I Am Still Catholic," in the October 1, 2004 issue of the National Catholic Reporter.

As a leader in nonviolent movements for peace, racial justice and human rights, Dick has led or participated in literally hundreds of nonviolent actions, such as prayer vigils, marches, sit-ins, street theater, picketing, leafleting, boycotts, fasting and nonviolent interposition.

Dick lives in Philadelphia, PA with his wife, Phyllis, a nurse and hospice pioneer. They have three children and nine grandchildren. Read full bio
